In Portland Maine atop Munjoy Hill - The Eastern Promenade and Fort Allen Park contain a sixty-eight acre grassy reserve that slopes down to Casco Bay. The picturesque views are some of the most amazing in the world - Casco Bay and the Islands, Fort Gorges and the boats that stream into Portland Harbor.
The local draw is the recreation - tennis and basketball courts, baseball fields, as well as multi-use biking/running/walking trails that snake alongside the coast. The "Eastern Prom" has a marvelous playground for kids. It's a popular spot for picnics, playing Frisbee, kite flying, sledding, marathons, Breast Cancer walks, Peaks Island to Portland swims and band concerts. All add life and joy to the park
East End beach is popular for sunning and swimming, kayaking. Facilities include a public boat launch, a mooring field for boats of all sizes, public toilets and changing areas.          
The City's finest harbor side stroll is along the 2.1mile Eastern Prom Trail. It starts in downtown Portland and connects to the Back Cove Trail.          
The Narrow Gauge Railroad runs along the edge of the Eastern Promenade with special trains all season.
            The Eastern Promenade is doggy friendly, with an off leash area next to Fort Allen Park and Dogs are allowed off leash on East End Beach, subject to Portland City allowed times. Portland doggy rules.
